Live introduction to Michaelantonio’s article denouncing the alarming surge of marijuana mania.

In a scathing response to the widespread manifestation of marijuana mania, I seek to dispel the notion that routine recreational use of cannabis is helpful & healthy for the mind, body, & spirit of humans.

On the contrary, we know that this dangerous practice breeds more problems than solutions, & I have medical science to back up this bold claim.

Let me preface my assertions by saying, I am well aware of the positive results from certain ingredients in cannabis that can save lives & assist many people with serious diseases & painful conditions.

But even this aspect contains dangers which must be taken seriously.

I am referring to CBD(cannabidiol), which shows promise in some areas of medical relief, but there is still not enough research to back up every claim made by advocates of the drug.

This video by VOX outlines the facts & dangers of CBD, according to our current knowledgehttps://youtu.be/bBn8SKZoWyQ

Beyond the potential positives of selected elements within the cannabis plant, I want to focus on the real problems we face from a growing population of weed mongers who elevate this substance to a level somewhere between the miracle of penicillin & the second coming of Christ Almighty.

Up In Smoke

Let’s start with the obvious elephant in the room: Smoking the stuff!

According to the American Lung Association, Marijuana smoke is harmful to lung health, just like any cigarette.

Whether from burning wood, tobacco or marijuana, toxins and carcinogens are released from the combustion of materials. Smoke from marijuana combustion has been shown to contain many of the same toxins, irritants and carcinogens as tobacco smoke.

Worse yet, the marijuana smoker tends to to inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than cigarette smokers, which leads to a greater exposure per breath to tar.

Not only is this smoke bad for the primary toker, it harms the lungs of those occupying the same space as the offender.

Now, let’s look at the effects of marijuana beyond its inhaled smoke dangers.

Secondhand marijuana smoke contains many of the same toxins and carcinogens found in directly inhaled marijuana smoke, in similar amounts if not more. While there is no data on the health consequences of breathing secondhand marijuana smoke, there is concern that it could cause harmful health effects, especially among vulnerable children in the home.

Weeding Out The Herd

The immediate & long term negatives far outweigh the positive aspects of ingesting this corrosive compound.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse sheds a revealing light upon what we can expect from playing with this fire:

THC acts on specific brain cell receptors that ordinarily react to natural THC-like chemicals. These natural chemicals play a role in normal brain development and function.

Marijuana overactivates parts of the brain that contain the highest number of these receptors. This causes the “high” that people feel. Other effects include:

altered senses (for example, seeing brighter colors)

altered sense of time

changes in mood

impaired body movement

difficulty with thinking and problem-solving

impaired memory

hallucinations (when taken in high doses)

delusions (when taken in high doses)

psychosis (when taken in high doses)

Then we have the long term destruction of the human brain, as outlined below:

Marijuana also affects brain development. When people begin using marijuana as teenagers, the drug may impair thinking, memory, and learning functions and affect how the brain builds connections between the areas necessary for these functions.

In one study by Duke University researchers, people who started smoking marijuana heavily in their teens and had an ongoing marijuana use disorder lost an average of 8 IQ points between ages 13 and 38. The lost mental abilities didn’t fully return in those who quit marijuana as adults.

Further still, there are additional physical & mental problems associated with regular use of this drug, such as breathing problems, increased heart rate, problems with child development during & after pregnancy, hallucinations, paranoia, schizophrenia, & more!

Marijuana use has also been linked to other mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts among teens.

There is also a possibility that second hand marijuana smoke can do as much damage to the heart and blood vessels as secondhand tobacco smoke.

Even if you challenge the catastrophic effects of marijuana, there are other costs to consuming this chemical that are detrimental to our lives.

How Does Marijuana Affect a Person’s Life?

Compared to those who don’t use marijuana, those who frequently use large amounts report the following:

lower life satisfaction

poorer mental health

poorer physical health

more relationship problems

People also report less academic and career success. For example, marijuana use is linked to a higher likelihood of dropping out of school.  It’s also linked to more job absences, accidents, and injuries.1

My Synopsis

You can make the claim that marijuana is a ‘natural’ plant, in stark contrast to the man made pharmaceutical drugs which contain their share of derogatory side effects, & therefore, cannabis is the better choice.

This argument appears strong to the non critical mind, but if you dig a bit deeper, you find that many other natural plants & minerals are very deadly to humans.

In fact, the best parts of cannabis have been unlocked by human ingenuity, & this truth tells you that ‘man made’ is not always synonymous with unhealthy products.

I have personally witnessed the negative effects of recreational marijuana use, & cannot, in good conscience, endorse such a practice. But, I will reserve judgment for the potential benefits of limited ingredients like CBD, which may have fantastic long term results for many sick & injured people worldwide.
